Here are some answers to questions we get asked a lot.

  1. Who are you guys?
    Centricity Music is a recording label and publishing company that was founded in 2005 with a commitment to artist development. Based in Franklin TN, our mission is to enable our artists to create life-changing experiences for the world. We operate from the values of being faith-centered, relationship-focused, and support-driven. We are family owned and we like it that way. Most of us really like Mexican food.

  3. What does Centricity mean?
    Centricity is a real word. It means the state or quality of being centered.If you’re centered, then you have good centricity. Congratulations.

  5. Can I send you my demo?
    Someone from our A&R team does their best to listen and respond to all music sent in. However, we’re not able to offer much critique or feedback. See #6 for some people we trust who can help you with that. 

    Feel free to send a link or file to [email protected] and we’ll get to it as soon as possible. Safe to say you probably have time to write another song or two, take the dog for a bunch of walks, or enjoy multiple trips to the taco bar while we’re at it. Patience please. 
  6. What qualities are you looking for in the artists you sign?
    Artists get signed these days for all kind of reasons, including being good at social media. While the answer to this question is always changing as the industry changes, here’s a summary of a few important criteria for us that seem to have stuck around for a while.
     
    1. Work Ethic
      Here’s to all the indie artists out there who don’t expect anyone to work harder than themselves when it comes to creating their music and getting it out to people. Labels, managers, promoters and agents are all important parts of a successful artist’s team, but that’s all they are. If you’re waiting for someone to come along and get to work to build your platform for you, you’ll probably be waiting a long time.

    2. Songs
      If the music industry has a little secret, it’s that artists and bands are important, but regardless of how good they might be, they’ll never have a real career in music without great songs. A great song is the supreme currency in all of music – it’s the thing that makes the connection with another human, the artist just carries it to them. Someone who shows up with a few great songs will get the attention over a bunch of followers or a contest winner every single time. The great song is what everyone is looking for and is the most difficult thing to find.

    3. Uniqueness (kind of)
      It wouldn’t be quite fair for us to say we are only looking for truly unique artists. The truth is, in every era, every form of commercial music has its sound, and we’re most interested in artists who find their uniqueness within the current commercial sound of their day. Being truly unique wont get you signed, but a uniqueness that can intersect with the format the label is trying to serve goes a long way in separating you from the pack.

    4. Talent
      You would assume this one is obvious, but not necessarily so. None of us would have to look too far to find someone with a no-talent opinion of a very successful artist. The definition of talent might be more fuzzy than at any other time in commercial music history, but for our purpose, we’re going to say that talent is the gift you have that helps you communicate and connect to people. If we can’t recognize that in someone, it’s unlikely we would find common ground for a partnership.

    5. Fit
      So you’re a hard worker who writes great songs with the right kind of uniqueness and amazing talent, and therefore must be an automatic signing for us?! Hold your horses there partner – this is where the real work comes in. Centricity has a DNA, a mission and values – a feel and a culture. These things make us unique, and we want to work with people who are a good fit for who we are. For us, who the person is, is more important than the music they make. Because of this, sometimes we’ll miss a great artist, and we decided a long time ago that we’d be OK with that.

  9. Where do I find tracks or chord charts to one of your artist’s songs?
    Most of the accompaniment tracks and chord charts are available in our store. If there’s something you’re not able to find or would like information on using one of our songs for something you’re doing, write us at [email protected].
  10. Can I intern with Centricity?
    We don’t have positions for everyone that would like to intern, but we do enjoy and appreciate having interns as part of our team. We’re not currently accepting internship applications, but check back here and we’ll post an application link.
